“No Man Can Take Advantage Of His Own Wrong”

A precondition always exists for a judge's appointment to the Federal bench. Judge McEwen, long before donning the Federal robes, was known as “The Judge”, but not for legal reasons… This bankrupt sports reporter spent so much time on the writing bench her nickname became “The Judge”. Judge McEwen’s Sports writing was fleeting, like a nun at a gentlemen’s club, well intentioned, but out of her element. Unfortunately, Judge McEwen’s legal ethics seem to derive more from the snack bar, than the Florida Bar.

The McEwens are a storied family in sports and legal circles, who were Tampa royalty. Tom McEwen and his brother Red hailed from the heartland of Florida, Hardee County, in the sleepy town of Wauchula. The name McEwen still resonates down at the Pioneer and Double J diners on US 17.

The press box at Amalie Arena bears the name Tom McEwen and the street along Raymond James Stadium, is christened Tom McEwen Blvd, serving as a perpetual tribute to the McEwen brothers influence. The McEwen brother’s helped elevate this mediocre Chapter 13 lawyer to a Federal Judgeship, but her sports reporting career was beyond redemption. The most astute decision Judge McEwen has made to date was to marry a McEwen, ensuring her rise to the bench. Preeminent lawyers become Judges to uphold the constitution and the law, bad judges seek the position to be somebody, while turning a blind eye to the violation of the law. The worst kind of judge is the one who allows the infringement of the law by appearing lawyers; and who think federal court orders can be used to legislate from the bench. Where the law stops so must the Judges reach! The reason people turn to the sports page is that it measures humanities accomplishments… while the front page measures humanities failures… Judge McEwen, will continue to be featured on the front page.
